Chili's Big QP burger outshines McDonald's Quarter Pounder on price and size

A taste test found Chili's Big QP, a larger-patty version of the Quarter Pounder, offers better value than the McDonald's classic.

Chili's has been targeting fast-food staples, and its Big QP burger directly copies the McDonald's Quarter Pounder’s ingredient list while boosting the beef portion by roughly 85%. The reviewer sampled a Quarter Pounder with cheese in Brooklyn for $7.69 and the Big QP as part of Chili's $10.99 3-For-Me meal, which also provides an appetizer, fries, and a drink. The Chili's version featured a thicker, well-seasoned patty, three pickle slices, diced red onion, and a brioche bun, delivering a richer bite.

Although the individual price of the Big QP is $14.99, the combo makes it a more economical choice. The chain’s broader strategy of menu innovation has coincided with 20 straight quarters of same-store sales growth, underscoring the financial relevance of such offerings.

Why it matters

It shows how casual-dining chains can compete with fast food by repackaging popular items at a higher perceived value.
