Christian author urges believers to reconsider support for Trump using biblical arguments

Martin Thomas Johnson, writing for the spiritual site Patheos, called on Christian voters to reassess their support for Donald Trump, asserting that the president’s actions betray biblical teachings. He linked Trump’s perceived pride, oppression, dishonesty and selfishness to recent news about the Reflecting Pool vandalism case and the U.S. Attorney Janine Pirro’s reversal on charges. Johnson also referenced a series of cyberattacks on water treatment plants in Minnesota, noting that intelligence officials had warned the administration, which he says Trump ignored.
Citing passages from Exodus, Matthew, Philippians and other books, he emphasized that Scripture permits only one master—God—and warns against idolatry. Johnson concluded that Trump’s focus on personal power undermines the public-service role of the presidency and distracts believers from serving God’s kingdom.
