College swimmer charged with killing Hawaiian resort guard after nude midnight assault
A 20-year-old naked college swimmer has been charged with murdering a 63-year-old security guard at a Maui beachfront resort.
On the night of Aug. 7, 20-year-old swimmer Legend Storer was captured on resort cameras walking naked toward the security office at the Sands of Kahana in Maui. Inside, 63-year-old guard Michael Dyer was on a lunch break when Storer broke in and struck him repeatedly with a five-gallon water bottle, causing fatal injuries. Police located the suspect wandering a nearby neighborhood two hours later, where he was taken to a hospital for abrasions before being arrested.
Court records show he has been charged with second-degree murder, burglary with a dangerous instrument and indecent exposure, and a judge denied bail. Storer, a former two-time Maui Interscholastic champion, previously attended Concordia University Irvine and later transferred to the University of Hawaii. The case may invoke a 2021 Hawaii law that raises penalties for crimes against seniors. He pleaded not guilty and remains detained at the Maui Community Correctional Center.
