Jonathan Harvey, the comedian behind the interstellar Count Binface character, announced his candidacy for the Clacton-on-Sea by-election, aiming to defeat Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The election, scheduled for 13 August, has attracted 32 hopefuls, many of them novelty candidates from groups like the Everyone is God Party and the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Major British parties have deliberately abstained, describing the contest as a political stunt.

Farage, currently facing a parliamentary investigation into his donations and finances, insists the vote will let constituents judge his conduct. Despite historically low vote totals—his previous best being 308—Count Binface claims he could outpoll Farage’s rivals.
