Couple Finds Shirtless Stranger in Dundee Travelodge Room After Key Card Mix-up

While staying at the Travelodge on Strathmore Avenue in Dundee, 60-year-old Kim Hutchison and 57-year-old Harry Grieve were awakened after 02:00 by a door click and found a shirtless man standing at the foot of their bed. The intruder, dressed only in shorts, insisted the room was his, repeatedly mentioning a different room number before departing after roughly a minute. Grieve reported the matter to reception but found no staff present, and police arrived for an unrelated disturbance, making no arrests.

Travelodge acknowledged that its updated security protocols were not followed, retrained staff at the Dundee site, and compensated the couple with a room refund and a £100 voucher. The episode follows earlier Travelodge incidents, including a sexual assault case in Maidenhead and other reports of strangers entering guest rooms, prompting an ongoing safety review by the chain.
