Coventry City break record to sign Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Nordsjaelland

Coventry City announced the signing of Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, setting a new club record for transfer expenditure. The 20-year-old arrived from Danish side Nordsjaelland for an agreed €27 million fee, with potential add-ons of €3 million, and signed a long-term deal. Yirenkyi, a product of the Right to Dream academy, made his senior debut for Ghana in May 2025 and later netted a late winner in the World Cup group match against Panama.

He was honoured as the Danish Superliga’s young player of the year last season and has also been deployed as a right-back for both club and country. Coventry manager Frank Lampard, who guided the club back to the top flight after a 25-year absence, welcomed the versatile “number eight” as the fifth addition to the squad this summer. Danish journalist Nicklas Degn described Yirenkyi as an “extremely exciting player” with maturity beyond his age.
