Daniel Kinahan to be sent back to Ireland after Dubai detention

Daniel Kinahan, identified by Irish courts as the head of a major drug cartel, was detained in Dubai after an arrest warrant was issued in April. Despite a series of appeals, the UAE is expected to sign the extradition papers, allowing him to be flown to Ireland in the coming weeks. Gardaí anticipate a swift handover and have coordinated with the Irish Defence Forces for a large-scale security operation upon his return.

The US imposed sanctions on Kinahan in 2022, and he once owned the boxing promotion company MTK Global, which represented fighters such as Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton. Irish police reaffirm their commitment to pursue transnational organised crime, citing recent cooperation that led to the extradition and sentencing of senior lieutenant Sean McGovern.
