Dashcam footage shows patrol cruiser hit during Tennessee roadside stop

Footage from a Tennessee Highway Patrol dashcam shows a sudden collision on Interstate 65 in Davidson County, where a moving car hit the back of a stationary patrol cruiser. The force of the impact shoved the cruiser into the vehicle the trooper had stopped, and the sudden jolt ripped the officer’s body camera from his uniform. The agency released the dash and body-camera videos, using the incident to reinforce the state’s Move Over Law, which advises drivers to change lanes safely or slow down when encountering emergency lights.

The warning follows similar incidents reported earlier this year in Texas, Kansas and Florida, where officers were endangered by drivers failing to give them space. Law-enforcement groups nationwide are using these events to highlight the risks faced during roadside stops.
