Deebo Samuel signs one-year deal to rejoin the San Francisco 49ers

After a single year with the Washington Commanders, Deebo Samuel is set to return to the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year contract that could reach $7 million. The trade that sent him to Washington in March 2025 fetched a fifth-round pick, and Samuel produced 72 receptions for 727 yards and five scores in 16 games. San Francisco, which has recently added Mike Evans and is coping with injuries to Ricky Pearsall and Christian Kirk, will gain depth at receiver with Samuel’s arrival.

The Commanders, meanwhile, are pursuing a different outside threat to pair with Terry McLaurin, as Stefon Diggs remains their primary option. Samuel’s comeback also coincides with Brandon Aiyuk’s unresolved status on the 49ers’ reserve list, a player Washington reportedly favors. Over his six-year stint with the 49ers, Samuel amassed 334 catches, 4,792 yards and 22 touchdowns, plus 1,143 rushing yards and 20 rushing scores.
