Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the all-women crew of the Indian Army Sailing Vessel Triveni for completing India’s first tri-service all-female circumnavigation.
In New Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh honoured the all-women crew of the Indian Army Sailing Vessel Triveni after they returned from the Samudra Pradakshina Expedition, India’s inaugural tri-service female circumnavigation. The nine sailors sailed for 314 days, traversing four oceans, crossing the Equator twice, the International Date Line, and the three Great Capes—Leeuwin, Horn and Good Hope—while also navigating the Drake Passage to join the elite Cape Horners.
Singh praised the crew for disproving gender-based doubts about physical and mental endurance in military operations and for exemplifying joint service teamwork. He added that the voyage projected India’s maritime heritage and cultural diplomacy during port calls abroad. The defence ministry credited two years of intensive training and continuous shore support for the success. The achievement is being hailed as a milestone for women in challenging defence roles.
