Delhi police constable plots ATM robberies after losing Rs 6-7 lakh in gaming
A Delhi Police constable who lost Rs 6-7 lakh in online gaming organized a gang that stole over Rs 12 lakh from ATMs, but was cheated out of his share.
Facing financial pressure from a Rs 6-7 lakh loss in online gaming, constable Hukamchand of the Delhi Police PCR unit devised a scheme to loot ATMs. He enlisted his nephew Arvind and two experienced gas-welders, Vikas Kumar and Raju, after meeting them at a welding shop. The gang used YouTube tutorials to learn how to cut open Hitachi Money Spot ATMs, targeting machines without night guards.
The first break-in on July 3 produced Rs 6.5 lakh, which the cutters kept for themselves, denying Hukamchand any share. A later attack on July 26 netted Rs 5.7 lakh, again leaving the planner unrewarded. Authorities traced the suspects via CCTV and seized them in Lucknow and Gurgaon, planning to seek remand to recover the stolen cash and investigate further ATM thefts in the region.
