Dialysis patient dies in ambulance after oxygen supply runs out in Madhya Pradesh
A 21-year-old dialysis patient died en route to a hospital in Mandla district when the ambulance’s oxygen ran out, prompting a health department inquiry.
Ajit Baraiya, a 21-year-old undergoing routine dialysis at Mandla district hospital, was rushed in an ambulance after his health deteriorated, according to his family. The ambulance, dispatched from Bamhani Community Health Centre, arrived about an hour after the call and reportedly lacked functional oxygen during the journey. The family claims the oxygen tank was exhausted three kilometres from the district hospital, and Baraiya died before reaching medical care.
A video showing the patient on a stretcher with his father beside him spread on social media. In response, the district health department appointed a four-member committee, led by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr D J Mohanty, to investigate and recommend actions against any responsible parties.
