Dick Vitale reports encouraging blood test results amid ongoing cancer battle

College basketball commentator Dick Vitale said recent blood work showed very positive results and that his immunotherapy is effectively targeting his cancer.

Dick Vitale, the veteran one outlet college basketball analyst, posted an update indicating that recent blood tests have returned very favorable results. He credited the immunotherapy treatments he is undergoing for effectively eliminating his cancer cells. Vitale’s cancer history began with a melanoma diagnosis in 2021, followed by lymphoma, vocal-cord cancer in 2023, and lymph-node cancer the next year, which required surgical intervention.

The broadcaster, now 87, has been a mainstay of one outlet’s college basketball coverage and received the Jimmy V Award for perseverance in 2022. He remains active in promoting The V Foundation for Cancer Research, an organization co-founded by his late friend Jim Valvano. While he appeared on one outlet a few times last season, he has not announced his plans for the upcoming season.
