Disney+ Orders Pilot for TV Series Inspired by EPCOT's Spaceship Earth Ride
Disney+ has commissioned a pilot for a series titled Spaceship Earth, drawing its premise from the long-running EPCOT attraction.
Disney+ announced the development of a pilot episode for a new series called Spaceship Earth, based on the EPCOT attraction that has operated since 1982. The show will center on a mission gone wrong, forcing teens from the past and future to unite against a mysterious, time-spanning danger. Jason Fuchs is attached as writer and co-showrunner, while Michael Waldron, Lee Toland Krieger, Adam Fishbach and Adam Fasullo will executive produce.
The pilot’s logline emphasizes a race to prevent a global cataclysm using the ride’s time-travel premise. This project follows Disney’s recent trend of turning park rides into films and TV shows, including the successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and recent Haunted Mansion movies. Fuchs brings prior experience adapting rides, having written a 2013 pilot for the Big Thunder Mountain attraction. The series is still in pilot stage, with a potential series order pending.
