DMK accuses Congress of swapping trust for ministerial posts

Dayanidhi Maran of the DMK launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of exchanging the trust of Tamil Nadu voters for ministerial portfolios after Rahul Gandhi warned that any party supporting the proposed Lok Sabha expansion and delimitation would be a modern-day traitor. Maran described Congress members as "poisonous snakes" who sell trust for power, highlighting the recent severance of ties between Congress, the DMK, and TVK.

He also criticized those who remain silent on Cauvery water rights and other regional issues, labeling them traitors. The BJP welcomed the growing discord, hoping it will help win DMK support for key legislative measures, despite the government not yet taking steps to revive the amendment bill that was previously defeated. The DMK has signaled it will review the proposal, insisting it must not disadvantage South India. Rahul Gandhi's remarks underscored concerns that the amendment could enable the ruling alliance to redraw constituencies to its advantage ahead of the 2029 elections.
