Dr. Priyanka declared brain dead after drunken driver crashes into medical students' scooter
A 28-year-old medical postgraduate was pronounced brain dead after a car driven by two intoxicated youths collided with her scooter in Rajahmundry, while her companion suffered minor injuries.
In Rajahmundry, a car driven by two alleged intoxicated men rammed a scooter carrying two postgraduate medical students from GSL Medical College near a mall on August 3. The impact threw Dr. Priyanka onto the road, causing severe trauma that led to brain death despite intensive care. Her companion was lightly injured and remains in stable condition.
Local police arrested the drivers, Suravarapu Daswanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards, initially charging them under section 338 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and later invoking section 308 for attempted culpable homicide. Investigators say the men had been denied entry to the cinema for being drunk, argued with staff, and then drove recklessly out of the parking area. Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari condemned the incident, calling it inhuman and urging strict legal action.
