Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator Sean Mannion told reporters that the Eagles intend to retain their run-pass option schemes while adding more under-center formations, tailoring the approach to each opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. Early camp sessions showcased under-center play-action designed to open different rushing lanes for Saquon Barkley and to give Jalen Hurts additional opportunities to attack defenses.

Operating from under center also obscures the team’s intentions, compelling linebackers and safeties to read more cues post-snap. Mannion stressed that the decision between shotgun RPOs and under-center sets will be made week-by-week and situationally, rather than as an either-or choice. He believes the variety will keep defenses off balance, whether they struggle against play-action from the line of scrimmage or against Hurts as a runner from shotgun.

The challenge, according to Mannion, is to integrate the concepts smoothly so the offense does not appear disjointed. Ultimately, the goal is to have multiple tactical options ready to exploit whatever defensive look the opponent presents.
