Ebola frontline staff in Bunia walk out over unpaid wages

On Thursday, dozens of nurses and other medical personnel gathered outside the governor’s office in Bunia, the capital of Ituri province, to press for overdue pay. The province accounts for almost nine-tenths of the country’s Ebola cases, and the staff say they have not received wages or hazard bonuses since the disease was declared in mid-May. Their walkout forced the temporary closure of several treatment centres, interrupting care for patients. This is the latest strike in a series of labour actions that started weeks earlier over similar grievances.
