Elderly Bronx woman and teen injured in shooting; three minors detained
An 87-year-old woman was hit in the neck and an 18-year-old man was wounded in the hip during a Bronx shooting, and three 16-year-olds were taken into custody.
Around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, shots were fired in the Wakefield section of the Bronx at the intersection of East 224th Street and Barnes Avenue. An 87-year-old woman suffered a neck wound and an 18-year-old man was shot in the hip; both were rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where they are listed as stable. Authorities suspect the senior victim was struck by stray bullet, and they have not determined whether the younger man was a target.
Police later apprehended three 16-year-old males in connection with the incident. Two of the teens have been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal possession of a weapon each, while the third faces a single weapons-possession charge. Their identities have not been released due to their minor status. The shooting follows a recent stray-bullet fatality involving a 12-year-old in the Bronx, for which a 45-year-old suspect is being held on murder charges.
