Electronic Arts Nears Completion of $55 Billion Take-Private Transaction
Electronic Arts announced that all required regulatory clearances have been secured and the $55 billion go-private deal is expected to close around August 4, 2026.
Electronic Arts disclosed in a recent SEC filing that it has secured all regulatory authorizations required to complete its $55 billion privatization, moving the expected closing date to the close of trading on August 4, 2026. The transaction, first revealed in September, involves a consortium of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, private-equity firm Silver Lake and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners. Although the original target date was June 30, the process was delayed while regulators reviewed the deal.
EA will retain its Redwood City, California headquarters and continue under the leadership of CEO Andrew Wilson. The company has recently benefited from the strong performance of titles such as Battlefield 6, which topped 2025 sales charts. Completion of the merger will shift EA from a publicly traded entity to a privately held one, altering its financial reporting and governance structure.
Why it matters
The deal will transform a major video-game publisher into a private company, affecting investors, employees and the industry’s competitive landscape.
