Elon Musk predicts AI will reshape jobs, sparing physical and creative work

At a Washington gathering of investors, Elon Musk warned that advances in artificial intelligence and robotics may soon render many traditional jobs unnecessary, especially those centered on repetitive, screen-based tasks. He cited examples such as data-entry clerks, administrative assistants and entry-level analysts, whose duties can be increasingly performed by AI tools that extract information, draft reports and handle routine customer inquiries.

Conversely, Musk emphasized that roles involving physical labor, direct human interaction, creativity or high-stakes decision-making—such as nurses, electricians, teachers, therapists and artists—are likely to endure. He suggested that future work will shift toward supervising AI, interpreting its outputs and applying human judgment. While Musk envisions a world where work could become optional within a decade or two, he cautioned that societal mechanisms for sharing the wealth generated by automation remain unresolved.
