Emma Finucane makes history with fourth Commonwealth Games track gold
Welsh cyclist Emma Finucane became the first sprint rider to claim four track gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games, adding a keirin win to her earlier titles.
Emma Finucane of Wales etched her name in Commonwealth Games history by winning four track gold medals in a single edition, a first for a sprint cyclist. Her victories spanned the team sprint, individual sprint, 1,000m time trial and, most recently, the keirin, all contested within four days at the Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Runner-up Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand, who was defending her keirin title, took silver.
Finucane's tally equals the four-gold benchmark set by Aaron Gate in Birmingham 2022 and exceeds the three-gold achievements of Anna Meares (2010) and Andrews (2022). The 23-year-old also became the first Welsh woman to earn four golds at one Games, briefly surpassing Para-sprinter Olivia Breen before the record was cemented. Her success contributed to Wales' overall medal count of nine gold, ten silver and twelve bronze.
