Emma Raducanu withdraws from U.S. Open due to lingering stress fracture

Emma Raducanu confirmed she will miss the upcoming U.S. Open after doctors ruled her stress fracture still requires recovery.

Emma Raducanu will sit out the U.S. Open after consulting with her doctors, who determined her stress fracture has not healed sufficiently for competition. The same injury forced her withdrawal from Wimbledon earlier this summer, where she was seen in a walking boot. Her season has been marred by a post-viral illness that sidelined her for over two months and a foot injury that disrupted preseason training.

She managed a comeback at the end of the clay swing, making the HSBC Championships final in June, but the leg fracture re-emerged. Raducanu is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Suvretta House in Switzerland and shared a positive Instagram post showing her on a court in a boot. The first round of the U.S. Open is set to begin on Aug. 30.

Why it matters

Raducanu's absence removes a high-profile contender from a major tennis tournament, affecting fans and the event's draw.
