David Sackeroff, an Emmy-nominated production designer and art director celebrated for his contributions to iconic television series, died on July 10 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, at the age of 81. Born on November 8, 1944, he cultivated an early interest in spatial storytelling through miniature puppet theaters, later designing stages for the Williamstown Theatre Festival and various Off-Broadway venues. Transitioning to television, Sackeroff worked on the pilot and first season of “Seinfeld” and served as art director for 25 episodes of one outlet’s “Alf.”
In 1991 he received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his work on “Carol & Company” alongside Portia Iversen. Over his career he contributed to more than 300 episodes of shows including “Home Improvement,” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” as well as short films such as “Mother, Mother.” He is survived by his sister, Dr. Mae Sakharov.
