Enforcement Directorate chief Rahul Navin receives one-year term extension until August 2027

A notification from the Department of Personnel and Training confirmed that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has granted IRS officer Rahul Navin a one-year extension as director of the Enforcement Directorate, pushing his term to 13 August 2027 and allowing service beyond his scheduled retirement on 31 July 2027. Navin, who entered the role in August 2024 after three years as director-in-charge, could be eligible for two further extensions, potentially serving until August 2029 under the current administration.

Hailing from Bihar, he holds BTech and MTech degrees from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from Swinburne University in Melbourne, and has authored a book on tax transparency. Under his leadership, the ED aims to complete investigations within two years, expedite auctioning of attached properties, and has already restored assets worth over Rs 35,000 crore to victims under the PMLA. The move comes as the Modi government approaches the 2029 general elections.
