Eric Bieniemy back on Chiefs practice after wife's shooting incident

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy resumed training on Monday, his first session since his wife was shot at their Virginia home and his son was arrested in the case.

Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, returned to the team's practice field on Monday, marking his first on-field involvement since a violent incident at his Virginia residence. His wife, Mia Bieniemy, was shot on July 26, and their son, Elijah Bieniemy, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. Elijah's legal proceedings have been delayed while a mental-health evaluation is arranged.

At the Missouri Western State University training site in St. Joseph, Bieniemy was greeted by a handful of fans before immediately taking part in drills. While away, he kept close communication with head coach Andy Reid, even calling staff member Brett Veach to relay a running-back instruction during a streamed practice. Bieniemy's résumé includes stints with the Washington Commanders, UCLA, and the Chicago Bears before rejoining the Chiefs, where he succeeded Matt Nagy, who moved to the New York Giants.
