Essex Post 91 Captures Vermont Legion Baseball Title with Two High-Scoring Wins
Essex Post 91 won the 2026 Vermont American Legion baseball championship, defeating Ludlow Post 36 and Lyndon Post 30 in back-to-back games on July 31.
On July 31, Essex Post 91 secured the Vermont American Legion baseball state championship by winning two consecutive elimination games at St. Peter's Field in Rutland. The team first beat Ludlow Post 36 9-5, rallying in the fifth and sixth innings with decisive hits from Jake Philbrick, Chris Morgan, Garret Carter and Owen Labor. Later that day, Essex faced Lyndon Post 30 in the title game, posting an 11-6 win that featured a four-run fifth inning and a crucial two-run double by Garret Carter in the sixth.
Standout performances came from Philbrick, who pitched six innings, and hitters Carter, Labor, Nico Caiano and Alec Davis, each recording multiple RBIs or hits. This marks Essex Post 91's first state title since its 2023 three-peat and the program's 14th overall, improving its season record to 22-7. The squad now moves on to the Northeast Regionals in Worcester, Massachusetts, set for August 5-9.
