Europe captain Anna Nordqvist admits juggling Solheim duties with major championship
Anna Nordqvist said balancing her role as Europe captain with competing in the AIG Women’s Open proved harder than expected.
Team Europe’s captain, Anna Nordqvist, revealed that trying to fulfil captaincy duties while competing in the AIG Women’s Open was more demanding than she had anticipated. She ruled herself out of a playing-captain role ahead of the tournament, despite a strong showing at the Evian Championship and a top-30 finish at Royal Lytham. Over the weekend she made numerous phone calls to prospective European qualifiers, delivering both hopeful and disappointing updates.
Nordqvist described the constant focus on Solheim matters as exhausting, especially after a third-round 77, but she managed a final-round 68. She is still finalising the 12-player roster, awaiting the outcome for Chiara Tamburlini and other contenders, with picks to be announced on one outlet News on Monday.
