Ex-umpire Anil Chaudhary says Kohli's aggression fuels cricket but must have limits

Former Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary discussed Virat Kohli’s fiery on-field personality, stressing that aggression is a necessary element of cricket provided it stays within acceptable limits. Drawing on his long-term experience officiating Kohli from his junior days in Delhi, Chaudhary said the star’s intensity is frequently misunderstood, pointing out that Kohli readily acknowledges good umpiring with gestures of gratitude.

He recalled the 2013 IPL confrontation between Kohli and Gautam Gambhir at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a dismissal sparked a verbal clash that was diffused by Rajat Bhatia. Chaudhary suggested that northern players, like Gambhir, naturally play with aggression, which he believes is crucial for performance. He warned that while such passion keeps the game exciting, there remains a line that should not be crossed. The remarks came as Kohli, now focused solely on ODIs, prepares for upcoming series after a standout IPL season.
