Fake streaming sites lure moviegoers into fraud during The Odyssey release
Scammers are using bogus websites that promise free access to the new film The Odyssey, stealing users' bank details and exposing them to malware.
Following the summer debut of The Odyssey, fraudsters have set up numerous fake streaming sites that claim to stream the movie at no cost. The sites display fabricated user reviews and often tailor language options to the visitor's location, making them appear legitimate. When users attempt to watch, they are asked to sign up with an email and full name, and later to provide bank details under the pretense of activating a free trial.
BeStreamWise, a UK anti-illegal-streaming campaign, says the scams not only steal money but also expose victims to malware and future phishing attempts. Kaspersky’s analyst Olga Altukhova recommends only using authorized platforms, verifying web addresses, and enabling multi-factor authentication. Anyone who has been duped should immediately inform their bank, change passwords for financial accounts, and file a report with Action Fraud.
