Falcons enter camp with only one healthy quarterback after Tagovailoa’s setback

Atlanta’s quarterback depth is thin at the start of training camp as Tua Tagovailoa deals with a minor injury and veteran Trevor Siemian was cut.

During the opening day of Atlanta Falcons training camp, the quarterback roster was reduced to a single fully available player. Coach Kevin Stefanski reported that Tua Tagovailoa experienced a minor flare-up, described as a tight back, and will not take part in the 11-on-11 drills, though he remains on the roster. Michael Penix Jr. continues his recovery from an ACL tear and will only play in the 7-on-7 portion of camp.

Veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian was released on Wednesday, further limiting options. Consequently, Jack Strand is expected to handle the majority of snaps in the full-team sessions. Stefanski emphasized that details of Tagovailoa’s condition would stay private, noting the benefits of camp privacy.

Why it matters

The Falcons’ limited quarterback options could affect their preparation and early-season performance.
