Family mourns 6-year-old after alleged impaired driver crash in St. John’s

Six-year-old Zafeer Munir, who moved to St. John’s from Bangladesh less than a year ago, was hit by an alleged impaired driver while heading to the local farmer’s market. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died a few days later. Police allege the driver, identified as Tyler Day, left the scene before being apprehended; his charges have now been upgraded to include impaired driving causing death and related offenses.

Zafeer’s parents, Rezwana Munir Islam and Riyad Ul Munir, along with his sister Zunairah Tanzila Munir, will lay him to rest at the Muslim Cemetery in Torbay on Thursday. The family described Zafeer as a joyful child who loved music, cars, and cake, and expressed deep grief over his loss.
