Family of three killed as flood-swamped bridge sweeps car away in Maharashtra
A woman and her two daughters drowned when their car was carried off a flooded bridge in Yavatmal district, while the husband survived by clinging to a tree.
Intense monsoon downpours left the bridge on the Darwha-Arni road under several feet of water, prompting Avinash Khandare to attempt crossing it after a late-night return from his wife's parental home in Ralegaon. The current dragged the family’s Ertiga into the Padan River, killing Madhavi Khandare and daughters Sachi and Prachi. Avinash managed to break free, grab a tree, and even tried to save one daughter, who slipped away.
He remained stranded until rescue teams and villagers reached the site around 1:30 am, after which he was taken to hospital. Police later recovered the three bodies from Bori Gosavi village limits, conducted post-mortems, and handed them to the grieving family.
