Family thanks community after Savannah Spence Paige killed in Cairns crash

Savannah Spence Paige, a 25-year-old resident of Kewarra Beach, was killed at the scene after a stolen ute struck her car on the Smithfield Bypass in northern Cairns on Wednesday. Her family released a statement describing her as beautiful inside and out, with a smile that illuminated every room, and said they are "beyond devastated" by her loss. They praised the professionalism of Queensland Police Service detectives and emergency services, and expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of kindness from both Cairns and Gold Coast residents.

An online fundraiser has been set up to aid her husband, Lachie Paige, a self-employed carpenter, and a candlelight vigil is planned for Sunday evening. The alleged driver, Jake Edward Warn, 36, is accused of being under the influence when he crashed the stolen vehicle into two cars, including Ms. Spence Paige's SUV, and has been charged with manslaughter, remaining in custody until his next hearing on October 27.
