Father and brother-in-law drown pregnant teen in honour killing in Agra

Delhi Police have filed a murder case after an 18-year-old pregnant teenager from Delhi’s Tigri area was allegedly drowned in the Chambal River by her father, 52-year-old Lakhpat Singh Baghel, and his brother-in-law. The family, originally from Basauni village in Agra, brought the girl to the village on July 28, claiming they would arrange a medical termination of her four-month pregnancy. After staying with relatives overnight, the trio went to a river ghat the next morning, where the accused first asked the girl to jump; when she refused, they forced her into the water.

Her body was later retrieved, and the suspects attempted to fabricate a suicide narrative, even presenting staged cremation photographs. During questioning, the father admitted the act, saying he acted out of fear of community shame after learning of his daughter's pregnancy. The brother-in-law has been arrested, and the case is registered under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
