Monica Hansen, who leads the FBI’s employment law unit, has been observed “liking” numerous LinkedIn posts that denounce the agency’s recent dismissals of agents and endorse lawsuits filed by those former employees. Among the content she endorsed are statements from the FBI Agents Association about pursuing legal options and personal messages from three agents named in a pending suit alleging retaliation. Observers, including a former U.S. attorney, contend that such public displays of support could violate her ethical obligations to the bureau and create a conflict of interest.
The issue has sparked debate over whether government lawyers should conceal personal political views to preserve the integrity of their representation. Hansen did not answer a request for comment before publication. The incident follows a prior report that another senior FBI official, Deputy Director Christopher Raia, also liked a controversial post but later removed it after scrutiny.
