Federal judge refuses to lift injunction protecting TSA workers' labor pact

A Washington federal court rejected the Trump Administration’s request to dismiss the TSA union’s lawsuit and keep a preliminary injunction in place.

In a Seattle-based federal court, the Trump Administration’s motion to throw out the TSA union’s case was denied, leaving the June 2025 preliminary injunction untouched. The injunction prevents the government from ending the labor contract that governs about 47,000 Transportation Security Administration officers. The court found the administration could not show that the Ninth Circuit’s ruling in AFGE v. Trump changed the underlying law enough to justify ending the agreement.

As a result, the union’s lawsuit over the attempted cancellation of the pact will continue. The decision underscores the judiciary’s scrutiny of executive actions affecting federal labor relations. The ruling was issued without comment from either side. The case remains pending as both parties prepare for further litigation.

Why it matters

The decision keeps protections for thousands of TSA workers in place while the legal fight over the federal labor contract continues.
