Fire at Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery contained without injuries

Early on August 9, a fire broke out at Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery in the country’s southwest, prompting a response from local firefighters and the company’s own security teams. The Saudi Energy Ministry announced that the blaze was fully extinguished and that there were no injuries reported. Officials said they are now finalising the necessary protocols related to the incident, though the ministry did not specify what triggered the fire.

The Jazan complex, located near the Red Sea and the Yemen border, refines 400,000 barrels of crude each day into products such as gasoline and ultra-light sulfur diesel. The plant had been taken offline on July 27 after a Houthi militant strike damaged its integrated gasification combined cycle unit and a tank farm, a claim also made by the rebels who said they hit sites in Jazan and Yanbu. Aramco’s chief, Amin Nasser, has previously asserted that recent attacks caused only temporary production setbacks and no material financial impact.
