First batch of August Social Security checks will be sent out in two weeks

The initial round of August Social Security benefits for retirees, capped at $5,181, will be deposited on August 12 for those born on or before the 10th of the month.

The Social Security Administration announced that the first tranche of August benefits, limited to $5,181 per month, will be issued on August 12 to retirees born on or before the 10th day of any month. Subsequent payments will follow on August 19 for individuals born between the 11th and 20th, and on August 26 for those whose birthdays fall on or after the 21st. Citizens become eligible for benefits at age 62, and the amount received depends on retirement age and lifetime contributions, with the youngest retirees eligible for up to $2,969 and those waiting until 70 eligible for the maximum.

The program is funded through payroll taxes paid by workers and employers. Trustees warn that, without congressional action, the retirement fund could be exhausted by 2032 due to demographic shifts.
