Flagstar Bank agrees to $31.5 million class-action payout for breach victims
Flagstar Bank will pay up to $25,000 to eligible claimants after two 2021 cyber-attacks affected more than 3 million customers.
Flagstar Bank, a regional lender headquartered in Hicksville, New York, faced two cyber-attacks in 2021 that compromised data of roughly 1.4 million and 1.5 million customers respectively. A class-action suit alleged inadequate protection and delayed notice, prompting the bank to settle for $31.5 million after mediation overseen by a retired federal judge. More than 2.1 million eligible individuals can claim payments from $100 up to $25,000, with the highest awards reserved for those who prove fraud, identity-theft costs, or credit-monitoring expenses.
Smaller payouts, estimated between $60 and $599, will be allocated based on the remaining settlement fund. California residents may receive up to $100. All claimants who file by August 11, 2026, also qualify for a free credit-monitoring package that includes three-bureau monitoring and identity-theft insurance. The settlement aims to resolve the dispute without further litigation.
