Florida man charged after allegedly slashing sister and covering infant in blood
Police say 36-year-old Ruben Altidore attacked his sister with a machete in Margate, leaving her severely wounded and her one-year-old daughter drenched in blood.
In Margate, Florida, Ruben Altidore, 36, allegedly entered his sister’s bedroom early Monday and attacked her with a machete, delivering a ten-inch thigh slash that nearly reached bone and a four-inch wound to the back of her right hand that threatened several fingers. The woman’s one-year-old daughter, asleep nearby, was untouched but discovered covered in her mother’s blood. Fleeing the scene, the victim ran to a neighbor’s door, shouting that her brother was trying to kill her; the exchange was recorded on police body-cam video.
Investigators later found the machete, a sheath with red smudges, and blood spatter throughout the residence. Altidore was arrested later that day and appeared in court the following day, where he was charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse and a probation violation, offenses that could carry a life sentence if he is convicted.
