Florida Man Charged with First-Degree Murder After Killing Mother and Causing Multiple Crashes
Gibson Nash, 21, was arrested on first-degree murder charges after his mother, nurse Margaret Chu Dufour, was found dead in Polk County, Florida, following a series of traffic collisions he caused.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigators allege 21-year-old Gibson Nash killed his 56-year-old mother, nurse Margaret Chu Dufour, after a chaotic morning on July 21. Earlier that day Nash, operating Dufour’s blue BMW SUV, collided with multiple vehicles, causing property damage and injuring three occupants who were later treated at a hospital. Deputies found Nash unconscious in the SUV, covered in blood that later tested as his mother’s. When they checked Dufour’s residence, they entered after noticing broken glass and a shovel, finding her dead from blunt-force trauma and strangulation.
The sheriff, Grady Judd, described the murder as exceptionally violent, noting bruised knuckles and feet on Nash and his liver failure from a Tylenol overdose. Nash, who had previously been arrested twice in Tennessee for threatening Dufour, is charged with first-degree murder, two third-degree felonies for fleeing crash scenes, and remains held without bond.
