Former HGTV star Nicole Curtis sued by Detroit over neglected historic home

The City of Detroit has initiated a civil nuisance-abatement action against former HGTV personality Nicole Curtis and her business, Detroit Renovations LLC, accusing them of neglecting a 1921 American foursquare house deemed a public hazard. After acquiring the property in 2021 following litigation with the Detroit Land Bank Authority, a Wayne County Circuit Judge ordered its refurbishment, but the city reports ongoing code violations, including unrepaired roof, gutters and missing exterior elements.

Despite numerous citations, the home has not been brought into compliance, prompting the lawsuit. Curtis, who built her reputation on restoring historic homes, was terminated by HGTV earlier this year after a video revealed her using a racial slur on set. She has not yet replied to inquiries about the legal action. One outlet attempted to reach her for comment without success.
