Former Mildura school aide sentenced to four-and-a-half years for child abuse material
Christopher Rankin, a former teacher's aide and kindergarten cleaner in Mildura, received a four-and-a-half year prison term for possessing and producing child sexual abuse images.
In a sentencing hearing at the Victorian County Court, former teacher's aide and kindergarten cleaner Christopher Rankin was handed a combined term of four-and-a-half years for a series of child sexual abuse material offences. Rankin admitted to 17 charges covering the possession of 3,638 images and videos, of which nearly 3,300 were sourced from elsewhere, and the creation of over 350 explicit recordings using a hidden bathroom camera and artificial-intelligence software.
The offences spanned from November 2024 to June 2025 and involved five children, six adults known to him, and additional unidentified victims. Judge Krista Breckweg called the material perverse and highlighted Rankin's moderate risk of reoffending, noting his prospects for rehabilitation remain guarded. He will be eligible for parole in three years, must serve a two-year good-behaviour bond, complete sex-offender and alcohol-rehab programs, and report regularly to police, with travel restrictions and lifetime reporting duties.
