Former pageant queen critically injured after being struck by car driven by young brothers in Oakland

Kiara Darvonne Bowling, a 31-year-old former beauty queen, was hit by a vehicle that two young brothers took without permission, leaving her with severe brain injuries.

Kiara Darvonne Bowling, 31, a former Ms. Greater Bay Area titleholder and law student, was critically injured when a car, allegedly taken by two brothers aged 4 and 6, careened into her as she walked a dog in Oakland. The impact resulted in multiple brain bleeds, facial fractures and other life-threatening injuries, and she is currently hospitalized at Highland Hospital. Police reports indicate the boys operated the vehicle at a high rate of speed, striking another car before hitting Bowling and a fence.

The brothers suffered a broken leg and a concussion but are listed as stable. Bowling’s family has started a GoFundMe campaign, raising more than $31,000 toward a $50,000 target for her ongoing treatment. Despite the severity of her condition, she has begun responding to basic commands. The boys’ parents are cooperating with investigators.
