Former PGA Tour golfer Matt McQuillan dies at age 45

Matt McQuillan, a 45-year-old former PGA Tour competitor from Kingston, Ontario, died on Aug. 5 while surrounded by his family, according to an obituary in the Kingston Whig-Standard. He began his collegiate golf career on a scholarship at Oklahoma State in 2000, later moving to the University of Georgia before turning pro in 2003. McQuillan played in 32 PGA Tour tournaments, cutting nine times, and achieved his best result in 2011 with a T-3 finish at the John Deere Classic, posting a final-round 64 alongside Zach Johnson.

His last PGA-sanctioned event was on the PGA Tour Canada circuit in September 2016, after which he stayed involved in the sport as a teaching professional in his hometown. The obituary praised his dedication to the game, his role as a mentor, and announced a future celebration of life organized by his family.
