Former Senator Ben Sasse Reports Cancer Remission While Warning of US Strategic Decline

Ben Sasse, battling stage-4 pancreatic cancer, said his tumors have shrunk after a new drug trial and warned that America faces major future challenges.

In a pre-recorded interview for the Western Conservative Summit, Ben Sasse shared that a clinical trial drug, daraxonrasib, has caused his stage-4 pancreatic cancer tumors to shrink dramatically, extending his expected survival beyond the original three-to-four-month estimate. He referenced a prayer from Pastor Tim Keller that helped him cope with the diagnosis. Despite his personal health improvement, Sasse warned that the nation’s biggest hurdles lie ahead, including beating China in strategic competition, overhauling a broken K-12 system, and navigating an AI-driven economic shift.

He advocated for decentralized corporate models to keep the United States at the forefront of global governance, contrasting this vision with a future led by the Chinese Communist Party. Sasse also criticized current education benchmarks, citing a journalist at one outlet that shows poor reading and math proficiency among eighth-graders, and warned that AI will fundamentally change schooling and work. The remarks were delivered from the campus of Colorado Christian University during the summit.
