Four detained after violent clash in Pontnewydd, two victims critical
Four men were taken into custody after a disturbance in Pontnewydd, near Pontypool, left two people in critical condition.
Gwent Police reported that a violent incident unfolded in Pontnewydd, close to Pontypool, at approximately 19:15 on Thursday evening, leading to the arrest of four men, two of whom are now in police custody. Three of the participants were transported to hospital for medical care, and two of those patients are listed as being in critical condition. The response included specially trained firearms officers and support from the National Police Air Service, alongside paramedics.
Detectives Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey condemned the violence and promised thorough investigation, noting increased police presence in the area. The authorities have closed Hospital Road and Mill Road to traffic and are seeking CCTV or dash-cam recordings from the vicinity between 19:00 and 19:30. Residents are asked to assist by providing any relevant information.
