From Credit Card Debt to Full-Time Online Reseller: One Man's Journey

Colton Rockwell turned a side hustle selling on eBay and other platforms into his primary income after eliminating his credit-card debt.

Colton Rockwell, a former marketer turned salesperson, struggled with over $10,000 in credit-card debt while earning $60,000 pre-tax in a commission role. Seeking extra cash, he experimented by listing unused video games on eBay, quickly discovering a profitable niche. After sourcing items from thrift stores, garage sales and Goodwill, he expanded to clothing and diversified onto Depop, Poshmark and Facebook Marketplace.

In 2023 his online sales produced roughly $50,000, enabling him to erase his credit-card balances and accumulate a $50,000 safety net. With that cushion, he quit his full-time job in April and now works exclusively as an online reseller, using the flexibility to be present for his one-year-old daughter. He also shares his methods through a social-media account called Rockwell Resell, hoping to help others replicate his success.
