FS Italiane's Trenitalia to launch Paris-London high-speed line with Hitachi trains by 2029
FS Italiane announced that its Trenitalia unit will start a high-speed rail link between Paris and London in 2029, ordering 19 trains from Hitachi Rail.
The Italian railway group said Trenitalia will begin operating a new high-speed service connecting Paris and London in 2029. To equip the route, it has placed an order for 19 trains with Hitachi Rail, a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. The venture is part of a 2 billion-euro investment aimed at expanding Trenitalia’s presence in France, where it already runs services to Lyon, Marseille and Milan. The move challenges Eurostar’s long-standing dominance on the cross-Channel corridor.
Why it matters
The new line could give travelers more options and increase competition on the busy Paris-London high-speed rail corridor.
